Started on Sunday morning in the interim capital Aden a workshop of selection criteria for national tool for the classification of the Yemeni universities under the auspices of the Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Dajr, head of the Supreme Council of higher education and under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and the financing of Alawn foundation for development and selah foundation for development . The workshop will discuss the urgent need for tests by international experts over two days with the participation of minister of higher education, undersecretaries and heads of universities and non-governmental organizations, the selection criteria for the classification of the Yemeni universities through the establishment of a national tool for the classification of universities. In the opening of the workshop, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Hussein Ba Salamah said "we seek through this workshop to determine our position and the quality of our education compared to Arab and foreign universities". The minister explained that this workshop is a valuable opportunity as the ministry and the members of the gathered heads of governmental and civil universities to have a clear vision to develop a strategic plan for the educational process in the coming years based on international quality standards in the process of scientific research and development continued to walk toward genuine national renaissance. Giving his thanks to Alawn foundation and Selah foundation that contribute to the process of education to the ranks of advanced education. "The aim of the workshop is to discuss the criteria and indicators of the national instrument for the classification of the Yemeni universities," said Mr. Abdulla bin Othman, Executive Director of Al-Aid Development Foundation. He added that this workshop came in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to make a qualitative leap in the performance of the Yemeni universities. The President of the University of Hadramout Dr. Mohamed Saeed Khanbash assured to heads of public and private universities to activate the application of the tool as it allows the evaluation of universities and help them to mature in various fields. He also assured on the prime minister and members of the government to develop a program to develop the performance of universities according to the results of the rating tool. Dr. Al-Khader Nasser Lasor, President of the University of Aden, spoke about the necessity of real characterization of the situation of the Yemeni universities in order to benefit from the existing possibilities and to employ them properly, setting out the objectives for which the tool was developed. Hence,This classification tool experience will be applied as a first stage to the University of Hadramout and then circulated to other universities.
