Official Launch of the National Tool Standards for Ranking Yemeni Universities to Raise the Pace of Scientific Competition Between Universities

The Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Technical Education and Vocational Training officially launched the work of the national tool standards for ranking Yemeni universities with funding from the Aid for Development Foundation.

The launch of the national university ranking comes within the partnership between the Ministry and the Foundation within a strategic project that aims to enhance the competitiveness of Yemeni universities to build a better future.

During the launch ceremony, Dr. Khaled Al-Wasabi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, Technical Education and Vocational Training, stressed the importance of the national tool for ranking universities, as it enhances the spirit of competition between all Yemeni universities, and identifies strengths and weaknesses in all aspects, and how to address them, praising the role of higher education institutions in continuing the educational process despite the difficult circumstances surrounding the country.

For his part, Dr. Khaled Omar Basaleem, Undersecretary of the Ministry for the Educational Affairs Sector, reviewed the procedures, importance and criteria adopted to activate the national tool for ranking universities, and how to apply it in the nominated universities.

Dr. Al-Khader Nasser Lasour, President of Aden University, stressed the importance of the national ranking tool, which relies on modern methods and approaches within international standards that will contribute to developing the level of work of Yemeni universities and facing all challenges and difficulties.

This was preceded by an intervention by Masa International Testing Company in the sisterly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, during which the tool, its components and how to work with it were explained.

For his part, Dr. Abdul-Latif bin Othman, Executive Director of the Aid for Development Foundation, indicated that the tool will contribute to raising the level of work of Yemeni universities and their outputs, calling on Yemeni universities to interact with the work of the tool, apply it and develop it in the future.

The ranking will be activated at the beginning of the academic year (2024-2025) with the universities nominated for the first round, and the ranking will include the remaining universities starting from the second year (2025-2026).
