Launching Accelerated Learning Classes for Refugee Children in Mukalla

The city of Mukalla witnessed the launch of accelerated learning classes for refugee children today, in the presence of Mr. Amin Baabad, Director General of the Ministry of Education Office, and Dr. Abdallah Bin Othman, Executive Director of Al-Awn Foundation for Development. This initiative follows the renovation of two classrooms and the commencement of educational activities in them.

Currently, accelerated learning is being implemented in three schools in Mukalla, located in the areas of Joulat Al-Shifa, Al-Kawd, and Al-Tawilah. Over the past and current year, the project has benefited 205 students, 45 of whom have completed remedial education and joined the general education system.

It is worth mentioning that the project also accommodates 30% of Yemeni students who have dropped out of school. This initiative is part of the project to provide primary and secondary education, funded by UNHCR Yemen and implemented by Al-Awn Foundation for Development in the Basateen area of Aden and Mukalla in Hadhramaut Governorate.

The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Anwar Faraj Abdul Daim, Head of the Education Division; Mr. Aboud Awad Bin Aboud Al-Sheikh, Director of the Remedial Education Department; Ms. Ibtisam Abdul Majid, Director of the Refugee Education Project in Aden from Al-Awn Foundation; Mr. Faraj Baheidra, Education Assistant for the Refugee Education Project in Mukalla; and Mr. Khaled Mattar, Media Specialist at Al-Awn Foundation for Development.
